Customer support specialist resume example, tailored to a job posting

Customer support specialist resume (mid level), before and after tailoring to one job posting. Each change is explained, and so is everything the posting asked for that the resume does not claim.

By Justin M., founder of BespokeJobs. Updated .

Everyone and everything in this example is fictional. Jamie Example, Example Booking Software, Sample Outlet Stores, Example Payments, and Example Bay Community College do not exist, and the job posting is invented.

About this example

This example shows what the generator is told to do and what it checks, as described in the resume guide. A real draft is written by an AI model from your own profile, so its wording will differ from this one, and from one run to the next. When the model is unavailable you get a profile-based resume instead, which the guide also describes.

Below is the text of the ATS resume (.docx). The human-readable PDF has the same content in the template you pick. Neither this example nor any draft predicts how an employer's hiring software will rank a resume.

What changed, and why

  • The metrics lead. The posting asks for comfort with CSAT and handle time, and the profile has a number for each, so the CSAT bullet leads the current role and the handle time bullet leads the earlier one.
  • The Saturday schedule is stated. The profile shows a Tuesday to Saturday schedule, which answers the posting's Saturday requirement, so the summary mentions it.
  • Zendesk leads the skills. The posting names Zendesk first among help desks, and the profile lists it, so it stays first in the skills and appears in the summary.
  • Billing comes from the articles and refunds. The help center articles cover billing questions, and the earlier job processed refunds, so both bullets stay. Neither calls it payments experience.
  • Writing is shown with a number. Thirty help center articles answer "strong written communication" better than the phrase would, so that bullet moves up to third.
  • First person comes out. "Cut my average handle time" becomes "Cut average handle time". Four years comes from the experience dates.
  • Facts are copied, not written. Name, contact details, job titles, employers, dates, education, and certification names come straight from the profile. The model only chooses their order where order can change.

What it left out

Jamie's profile does not support these, so neither the resume nor the cover letter claims them:

  • Typing speed of 50 words per minute. The profile gives no typing speed.
  • Payments industry experience. Billing questions about a scheduling app are not payments work, so neither document calls them that.
  • Spanish and Salesforce Service Cloud. Neither is in the profile.
  • Eastern time zone hours. Jamie lives in Tampa, but the profile does not say which hours Jamie can work, so neither document promises them.

Code checks only the resume's structure. Every entry in the Skills section has to match a skill in the profile, and every job title, employer, and date has to match an experience entry. A draft that fails either check is not used. Nothing checks the free text. The summary, the bullets, and the whole cover letter could still mention a skill, tool, or number the profile does not hold. Keeping them to the profile is an instruction to the model, not a check, so read every draft before you send it. If you do have a skill a posting asks for, add it to your profile before you generate.

Application for Customer Support Specialist, Tier 1 at Example Payments

Dear Hiring Team,

The Customer Support Specialist, Tier 1 role at Example Payments looks like a natural next step from the support work I do now. At Example Booking Software, I answer about 45 email and chat tickets a day in Zendesk for a scheduling app used by salons and spas, and I have kept a 96% customer satisfaction score over the last four quarters while working that volume. I have four years of support experience across software and retail.

Your posting asks for someone who can handle email, chat, and phone, and who can work Saturdays. My current schedule runs Tuesday to Saturday so that I can cover weekend chat, which makes weekend coverage a normal part of my week, not an exception. At Sample Outlet Stores, I worked the phones, answering 60 to 70 calls a day about orders, returns, and store hours, so I am used to a steady queue on every channel.

On the phones, I also cut my average handle time from 7 minutes to 5 over six months, and I processed refunds and exchanges in the order management system, which is close to the account questions your small business customers will bring. My skills include Zendesk, troubleshooting, bug reporting, and knowledge base writing, and I hold an associate degree from Example Bay Community College. I would bring the same pace to your queue.

I would be glad to talk about how I could help your customers get clear answers quickly, by email, chat, or phone. Thank you for your time and for considering my application.

Sincerely,

Jamie Example

  • The first sentence names the role and the company, and the opening leads with the ticket volume and CSAT score.
  • The letter mentions the Saturday schedule because that bullet is second in the profile, within the three highlights per role the letter sees.
  • The 30 help center articles are fourth in the profile, so the letter names knowledge base writing only as a skill. Moving that bullet up would let it use the number.
  • It runs 258 words, within the 250 to 350 the model is asked for, and closes by asking for a conversation and thanking the reader.
  • The letter is written from a shorter view of the profile: the three most recent roles with their first three highlights each, the first 12 skills, the certifications, and education without dates.

Pay, openings, and your own resume

Upload a resume and BespokeJobs ranks live openings against it, then tailors a resume and cover letter like this one for any match you pick.

How this example was made: we wrote it by hand, following the instructions the generator gives the AI model and the checks it runs, rather than running the generator. A real draft from the same profile would word things differently.
