Electrician resume example, tailored to a job posting

Electrician resume (mid level), before and after tailoring to one job posting. Each change is explained, and so is everything the posting asked for that the resume does not claim.

Everyone and everything in this example is fictional. Reese Sample, Example Brothers Electric, Sample Valley Electrical Contractors, Example Facility Services, and Sample Metro Technical College do not exist, and the job posting is invented.

About this example

This example shows what the generator is told to do and what it checks, as described in the resume guide. A real draft is written by an AI model from your own profile, so its wording will differ from this one, and from one run to the next. When the model is unavailable you get a profile-based resume instead, which the guide also describes.

Below is the text of the ATS resume (.docx). The human-readable PDF has the same content in the template you pick. Neither this example nor any draft predicts how an employer's hiring software will rank a resume.

Professional Summary

What changed, and why

  • The license comes first. The posting requires a journeyman license and accepts an OSHA 30 card, so the license moves to the top and the summary names both.
  • Commercial work leads a mostly residential history. The six commercial build-outs move to the top of the current role, and the summary pairs them with the commercial jobs from the apprenticeship. The residential bullets stay, lower down.
  • EMT conduit leads the apprenticeship. The posting asks for conduit bending, so the EMT bullet moves above the hours count.
  • Crew leadership moves up. The posting has the electrician direct apprentices, and the profile shows Reese leading a crew with one, so that bullet moves to second.
  • Skill labels are copied exactly. The posting says NEC, but the skill is copied from the profile as "National Electrical Code", so it stays spelled out. It moves to third in the skills.
  • A weak opener is replaced. "Assisted with troubleshooting" becomes "Worked with journeymen to troubleshoot", which keeps the apprentice's role clear without overstating it.
  • Facts are copied, not written. Name, contact details, job titles, employers, dates, education, and certification names come straight from the profile. The model only chooses their order where order can change.

What it left out

Reese's profile does not support these, so neither the resume nor the cover letter claims them:

  • Rigid conduit. The profile names EMT only.
  • 3-phase power and 480-volt systems. The largest service in the profile is 200 amps residential, and the commercial bullets do not say what voltage.
  • A driver's license and driving record. Not in the profile.
  • Lighting controls, fire alarm systems, and a master license. None of them is in the profile.

Code checks only the resume's structure. Every entry in the Skills section has to match a skill in the profile, and every job title, employer, and date has to match an experience entry. A draft that fails either check is not used. Nothing checks the free text. The summary, the bullets, and the whole cover letter could still mention a skill, tool, or number the profile does not hold. Keeping them to the profile is an instruction to the model, not a check, so read every draft before you send it. If you do have a skill a posting asks for, add it to your profile before you generate.

Application for Commercial Electrician at Example Facility Services

Dear Hiring Team,

The Commercial Electrician position at Example Facility Services lines up with the commercial build-outs I have wired at Example Brothers Electric: six light commercial jobs, including two restaurants and a dental office, where I ran the conduit and pulled the wire. I hold a Journeyman Electrician License from the City of Kansas City, MO, and an OSHA 30-Hour Construction card, with nine years in the trade across residential and light commercial work.

Your posting asks for someone who can bend and install conduit and work to the National Electrical Code. I learned conduit work during a four-year apprenticeship at Sample Valley Electrical Contractors, where I logged 8,000 on-the-job hours and bent and installed EMT conduit on commercial tenant improvement jobs. I also worked with journeymen there to troubleshoot and repair lighting and receptacle circuits.

Along with the commercial jobs, I wire about 40 new homes and remodels a year from rough-in through final inspection, and I install and replace panels and service upgrades up to 200 amps. Every one of those homes ends in a final inspection, so I am used to building work that has to pass. I read blueprints and work to the National Electrical Code on all of it, and I am ready to bring that to commercial work full time.

I would welcome the chance to talk about your commercial projects, the crews you run, and where I could help. I would bring the same care to your tenant build-outs. Thank you for your time and for considering my application.

Sincerely,

Reese Sample

  • The first sentence names the role and the company, and the opening names the license the posting requires.
  • The crew leadership and first-try inspection bullets are fourth and fifth in the profile, past the three highlights per role the letter sees, so the letter does not mention them.
  • "I am ready to bring that to commercial work full time" is a statement of intent the profile does not hold. Keep it only if it is true for you.
  • It runs 254 words, within the 250 to 350 the model is asked for, and closes by asking for a conversation and thanking the reader.
  • The letter is written from a shorter view of the profile: the three most recent roles with their first three highlights each, the first 12 skills, the certifications, and education without dates.

How this example was made: we wrote it by hand, following the instructions the generator gives the AI model and the checks it runs, rather than running the generator. A real draft from the same profile would word things differently.
