Warehouse associate resume example, tailored to a job posting

Warehouse associate resume (entry level), before and after tailoring to one job posting. Each change is explained, and so is everything the posting asked for that the resume does not claim.

Everyone and everything in this example is fictional. Drew Example, Example Parcel Fulfillment, Sample Hardware Supply, Example Grocery Distribution, and Example North High School do not exist, and the job posting is invented.

About this example

This example shows what the generator is told to do and what it checks, as described in the resume guide. A real draft is written by an AI model from your own profile, so its wording will differ from this one, and from one run to the next. When the model is unavailable you get a profile-based resume instead, which the guide also describes.

Below is the text of the ATS resume (.docx). The human-readable PDF has the same content in the template you pick. Neither this example nor any draft predicts how an employer's hiring software will rank a resume.

What changed, and why

  • The forklift certification comes first. The posting requires one, so it moves ahead of the OSHA card, and the summary names both.
  • Rate and accuracy lead. The posting asks for pick rate and accuracy standards, and the profile has a number for each, so the accuracy bullet moves up to second, right after the rate.
  • The RF scanner stays in the first bullet. The posting asks for RF scanner experience, and the profile's top bullet already says it. "RF scanners" moves up to second in the skills.
  • Overnight work is shown as experience, not promised as availability. The profile shows overnight stocking at the hardware store and a current second shift with overtime, so the summary says Drew has worked both. It does not say Drew can work 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. or Saturdays, which the profile does not state.
  • A weak opener is replaced. "Helped customers find items" becomes a bullet that opens with carrying heavy purchases, since a bullet should not open with "Helped".
  • Years come from the dates. Three years runs from the stocking job in August 2023, and more than six months of it is in a warehouse.
  • Facts are copied, not written. Name, contact details, job titles, employers, dates, education, and certification names come straight from the profile. The model only chooses their order where order can change.

What it left out

Drew's profile does not support these, so neither the resume nor the cover letter claims them:

  • Availability for 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., including Saturdays. The profile shows past overnight work and a current Monday to Friday shift, not this schedule. Drew would need to say so in the application.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds. The profile says "heavy purchases" and gives no weight, so neither document adds one.
  • Working in a cooler. Not in the profile.
  • Sit-down and stand-up forklifts, and a reach truck. The certification does not name a forklift type, so the resume does not either.
  • Food distribution experience. Not in the profile.

Code checks only the resume's structure. Every entry in the Skills section has to match a skill in the profile, and every job title, employer, and date has to match an experience entry. A draft that fails either check is not used. Nothing checks the free text. The summary, the bullets, and the whole cover letter could still mention a skill, tool, or number the profile does not hold. Keeping them to the profile is an instruction to the model, not a check, so read every draft before you send it. If you do have a skill a posting asks for, add it to your profile before you generate.

Drew Example

Application for Warehouse Associate, Overnight Shift at Example Grocery Distribution

Dear Hiring Team,

The Warehouse Associate, Overnight Shift position at Example Grocery Distribution fits the work I do now at Example Parcel Fulfillment, where I pick and pack about 1,100 units per shift with an RF scanner, at 104% of the site's rate goal. I hold a forklift operator certification, which your posting requires, and an OSHA 10-Hour General Industry card. I have three years of warehouse and stocking experience, and I would bring the same pace to your grocery orders.

Your posting asks for someone who can pick at rate, load trailers correctly, and handle late hours. Along with picking, I load outbound trailers and check each pallet against the bill of lading. Your posting also asks for RF scanner experience, which I use on every shift. I work second shift now, from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with required overtime in peak season, and at Sample Hardware Supply I unloaded freight trucks and stocked shelves overnight before the store opened.

At the hardware store, I also counted inventory each month and kept the stockroom organized, and I carried heavy purchases out to customers' cars. I have also operated pallet jacks and forklifts and worked in shipping and receiving. Between the two jobs, I have unloaded trucks, stocked shelves, picked and packed orders, and loaded outbound trailers, so I have worked most steps of moving freight through a building.

I would like to talk about your overnight team and its schedule, and how I could help keep store orders moving. Thank you for your time and for considering my application.

Sincerely,

Drew Example

  • The first sentence names the role and the company, and the opening leads with the pick rate and names the forklift certification the posting requires.
  • The letter describes the shifts Drew has worked and leaves the overnight schedule for Drew to confirm. It does not say "I can work overnight".
  • The 99.8% accuracy rate is fourth in the profile, past the three highlights per role the letter sees, so the letter does not mention it.
  • It runs 258 words, within the 250 to 350 the model is asked for, and closes by asking for a conversation and thanking the reader.
  • The letter is written from a shorter view of the profile: the three most recent roles with their first three highlights each, the first 12 skills, the certifications, and education without dates.

How this example was made: we wrote it by hand, following the instructions the generator gives the AI model and the checks it runs, rather than running the generator. A real draft from the same profile would word things differently.
