Marketing manager resume example, tailored to a job posting

Marketing manager resume (mid level), before and after tailoring to one job posting. Each change is explained, and so is everything the posting asked for that the resume does not claim.

By Justin M., founder of BespokeJobs. Updated .

Everyone and everything in this example is fictional. Avery Sample, Example Outdoor Gear, Sample Coffee Roasters, Example Home Fitness, and Example State University do not exist, and the job posting is invented.

About this example

This example shows what the generator is told to do and what it checks, as described in the resume guide. A real draft is written by an AI model from your own profile, so its wording will differ from this one, and from one run to the next. When the model is unavailable you get a profile-based resume instead, which the guide also describes.

Below is the text of the ATS resume (.docx). The human-readable PDF has the same content in the template you pick. Neither this example nor any draft predicts how an employer's hiring software will rank a resume.

What changed, and why

  • The email result leads, in the XYZ shape. The revenue share bullet moves to the top: the result, the measure (14% to 22% of online sales), then how (three automated flows).
  • The paid search budget moves up. The posting asks for hands-on paid search budgets, so the Google Ads bullet moves to second and adds "paid search", which is what a Google Ads search budget is.
  • "Ecommerce" comes from the profile's own words. The profile measures email against online sales, so the summary can say ecommerce. Seven years comes from the experience dates.
  • Analytics stays specific. The weekly Google Analytics 4 report moves from last to fourth, and the summary names it. The resume does not call the skill "strong", which is the posting's word, not a fact.
  • Coordinating freelancers stays coordinating. The posting wants someone who has managed direct reports. Two freelance writers are not direct reports, so the bullet keeps "Coordinate" and moves to the end of the role.
  • Writing work stays visible. The product descriptions and newsletter bullet stays, and copywriting moves ahead of content writing in the skills.
  • Facts are copied, not written. Name, contact details, job titles, employers, dates, education, and certification names come straight from the profile. The model only chooses their order where order can change.

What it left out

Avery's profile does not support these, so neither the resume nor the cover letter claims them:

  • Managing direct reports. The profile shows two freelance writers Avery coordinates, not a team Avery manages.
  • Search engine optimization (SEO). Writing blog posts is not SEO, and the profile does not mention it.
  • Meta Ads and Shopify. The Facebook work in the profile is posting content, not paid ads, and Shopify does not appear.
  • A $600,000 annual budget. The resume keeps the monthly Google Ads figure as the profile states it, and does not add up a yearly total to match the posting.

Code checks only the resume's structure. Every entry in the Skills section has to match a skill in the profile, and every job title, employer, and date has to match an experience entry. A draft that fails either check is not used. Nothing checks the free text. The summary, the bullets, and the whole cover letter could still mention a skill, tool, or number the profile does not hold. Keeping them to the profile is an instruction to the model, not a check, so read every draft before you send it. If you do have a skill a posting asks for, add it to your profile before you generate.

Application for Marketing Manager at Example Home Fitness

Dear Hiring Team,

The Marketing Manager role at Example Home Fitness covers email, paid search, and content, the channels I work in every day. At Example Outdoor Gear, I raised email's share of our online sales from 14% to 22% in two years by building welcome, cart, and win-back flows. I have seven years of digital marketing experience with consumer brands, most recently in ecommerce at an outdoor gear company.

Your posting asks for someone who can run email and paid search hands-on and read the numbers behind them. I send two to three campaigns a week in Klaviyo to a list of 180,000 subscribers, and I manage a $45,000 monthly Google Ads budget. I also work in Google Analytics 4 and use A/B testing. My skills include marketing automation, copywriting, and budget management.

Before that, as marketing coordinator at Sample Coffee Roasters, I planned and posted our Instagram and Facebook content and grew our Instagram following from 8,000 to 31,000 in two years. I also wrote the product descriptions and the monthly customer newsletter. Content and copy have been part of both jobs: today I run our email campaigns, and at Sample Coffee Roasters I wrote the customer newsletter every month. I hold the Google Ads Search Certification and a Bachelor of Arts in marketing from Example State University.

I would welcome the chance to talk about your plans for email, paid search, and content at Example Home Fitness, and how my experience could help you reach them. Thank you for your time and for considering my application.

Sincerely,

Avery Sample

  • The first sentence names the role and the company, and the opening leads with the email revenue result.
  • Google Analytics 4 and A/B testing come from the skills list, since the weekly report bullet is fifth in the profile and the letter sees only the first three highlights per role.
  • The letter does not mention leading a team or SEO.
  • It runs 256 words, within the 250 to 350 the model is asked for, and closes by asking for a conversation and thanking the reader.
  • The letter is written from a shorter view of the profile: the three most recent roles with their first three highlights each, the first 12 skills, the certifications, and education without dates.

Pay, openings, and your own resume

How this example was made: we wrote it by hand, following the instructions the generator gives the AI model and the checks it runs, rather than running the generator. A real draft from the same profile would word things differently.
